Good News Everybody /Professor Farnsworth, Obama’s Smart Diplomacy(tm) directed at getting the world to tut-tut and frown most vigorously at Syria is paying off!!! The Russians are sending troops!
Now the Russian Black Sea fleet’s Iman tanker has arrived in the Syrian port of Tartus on the Mediterranean Sea with an anti-terror squad from the Russian Marines aboard according to the Interfax news agency. The Assad government has insisted it is fighting a terrorist insurgency.
Eh, so they’re going to help Assad, at least they’re sending troops, right?

So the Russians will be sending out ant-terrorist marines to assist the Israelis soon, right? Or possibly India, since they are already allies. Oh wait, I forgot those are pro-democratic countries that believe in representative government. Forget I asked.
His Manliness, newly “elected” President Putin only supports the leaders of countries who love their people so much that they insist on devoting their entire lives (and families’ lives) to
rulingrepresenting the will of the people. Which means he’ll be offering Obama military aid right around election time, I suppose.If they do send troops to Israel, somehow I think they’ll be fighting the “Real Terrorists(tm)”, and I don’t mean the ones who dance around and give out candy when they kill children.
This sounds more like 8 guys with AKs assigned to protect the ship than some sort of full fleged Russian commitment.
Russia doesn’t really have Marines as we think of them. they have Naval Infantry which are relatively lightly armed shock troops intended to quickly seize a port. There are less than 20,000 of them with no organic air, armor or artillery.
The ship replaced the previous ship that was there, this one has the anti-terror squad on it.
We’ll see what they’re doing.
FYI, a big chunk of the folks who are really into Biblical prophesy think a war involving Russia and Israel is “endy”, so to speak. Gog and Magog, and all that.
