The big joke is that it’s a bigger surprise that he’s 39. Nobody cares that he’s gay.
I’m more shocked by the fact that this asinine show is still on the air, and “Community” keeps getting threatened with cancellation. Wasn’t there a thing about him (Jim Parsons) being gay after his first award?
I love George Takei. I wish he’d get a tv show, instead of that asshat boytoy, Ashton Kutcher.
Hey, there’s no reason to disparage Big Bag Theory. It and Community are both excellent shows.
I am (for the most part) it’s target demographic. I watched it for the first couple of season, but the stereotypes just started to stick in my throat. I know, I know it’ just a tv show…
It is possible that I am still bitter that the ScFi channel turned into a shit faucet, and all my favorite shows keep getting cancelled, and we’re being overrun by fascists with iPhones and wearing the latest in North Face riot gear.
Jim Parson’s the only reason to watch the show, possibly because (The Husband thinks this) I have a touch of Asperger’s myself. The other’s are just caricatures of what Hollywood thinks physicists are supposed to be like.
I really hate stereotypes, even though they can be useful to make a point, but isn’t it time that Hollywood started allowing their characters to have depth, and stop looking to the 60s to define what scientists, fathers, career women, military, and gays are actually like?
Hell, why can’t Sheldon actually BE gay, instead of the conveniently amusing asperger’s disorder. Most South Asians that I knew were total horn-dogs, and all the engineers that I have known are not the live-at-home-with-mom types.

Is this some kind of movie serial thing on the picture tube? I don’t watch that anymore since they cancelled Stargate and Galactica. Nothin’ on with exploding spaceships? Not interested.
Plus Deadwood wasn’t renewed. Less said about Firefly the better.

My favorite “shock” coming out was the guy who played the young kid on Who’s the Boss?
He was obviously gay when he was 6.
I don’t watch Big Bang Theory much, just reruns on USA or TNT or whoever shows the reruns, and I was just thinking the other day, “That guy has to be gay”.
I have a fully developed gaydar, it comes from living in Portsmouth, NH with my gay brother and his boyfriend. Everybody I knew there was gay.
Portsmouth, and nearby Gaygunquit, had a large gay community in 1981, not sure if it still does.
Yeah, my gaydar is awful. Despite the fact that I had an out gay suite-mate in college, and even lived in a house with 3 gay guys for nearly a year not long after college, I usually don’t pick up on it unless it’s at least a 7 out of 10 on the Harvey Fierstein scale. I’m even worse at spotting lesbians than gay dudes.
So no, it didn’t occur to me that Parsons was gay. But then again, it didn’t shock me. It’s not like there are any gay men in show business…
I can’t spot lesbians either. Of course that’s probably because I hope, as Ace once wrote, that all women are 2 daquiris from lesbo action.
