I’m completely out of The Macallan.
At least until I pick up another bottle. I’m not much of a Doors fan, BTW, it just seemed fitting, because when you realize you’re out of a sweet ambrosia like The Macallan, your first reaction is,
Then you realize that just gives you an excuse to try something new. Yay! I have some Laphroaig, but Laphroaig’s definitely one of those you gotta be in the mood for type, I do have some Jameson 12 year as well, but obviously, it ain’t scotch. Anyone got any suggestions as far as scotch to try? I tend to go for single malts, but I’m open to blends, so long as they don’t break the bank, I’m not about to shell out more for Johnny Walker than a good single malt.

You know, Diet Dr Pepper tastes more like regular. I’m just saying is all.
Try Cragganmore, Talisker, or Lagavulin. Or that gentle but lovable puppydog – Oban.
They’re all single malts – all Islay, I believe – and all quite good. Um, Oban is an Island-Highland single malt, but it tastes Islay.
Keep most of these around – along with the aforementioned rocket fuel (Laphroaig!) and the best scotch in the world (Macallan cask strength) and you’re covered.
Glenmorangie Port Wood Finish- it’ll run you about $65 for a liter. It’s a dessert scotch like all of Glenmorangies whiskys: light smoke, very floral with dark chocolate and cherries prominent. Any of Glenmorangies offerings are wonderful but the Port finish is my personal favorite.
Teh Hubby and I were at a Mexican hole-in-the-wall the other day and they were passing out free mini-shots of what was a really tasty Scotch. (first mini-shot was free, after that it was $6 a shot) It had a nice smooth chocolate note to it. They made the stupid mistake of also mixing it with pineapple juice, though. But on a plus side, they had hot chicks in tight clothes and high heels passing the shots out.
Unfortunately I can’t remember the name of the Scotch, I’ll see if I can find out.
The food at the place was really good. And they had soccer on TV. So I was WAY more impressed with the place than I thought I’d be.
And on another Scotch note, a couple of drops of Glenlivet Nadurra is good for convincing your 9-year-old that sampling what’s in your adult glass is a bad idea.
Aucentochen (sp) Classic single malt.
Tastes light and smoky.
Well worth the $30.
Lagavolin, Oban, Glenmorangie, Laphroaig, and Mortlach (Speyside, 15 yr, more rocket fuel). Just looked in my larder.
I agree on the Macallan too.
Suntory Royal (if you can find it). As the ads went, “From the bonnie, bonnie banks of the Yamakazie!”
Thinking of trying some Glenmorangie, I’ve had most of the heavy hitters, something light and floral will be a nice change, some of the more obscure ones I’m not gonna find with PA’s fucktarded liquor laws, but that problem’ll be fixing itself sooner rather than later.
