I wrote McCain a letter suggesting he not vote for gun control. I clicked, “Yes I want a response”.
Below the fold because it’ll be long and because of a language alert, I did not cuss once at him. At least in the email I sent, there might be some cussing when I translate his response.
Actually, I’m sure of it.
I am a constituent and would like to let you know that I hope you vote against any gun control bill brought in a hurried and irresponsible manner as recently happened in NYS.
The current “bi-partisan” compromise I see brewing is to expand background checks.
First: Private individuals selling private property to other private individuals is none of the government’s business.
Second: If you are determined to actually vote for this travesty, I beg you to check crime statistics and see exactly how many such privately sold guns are used in crime Prediction: near zero, criminals steal guns, not buy them. If they do buy them, they buy them from other criminals.
Which leads us to… Third: Criminals do not follow the law. This will do nothing but allow the gov’t to siphon money from law-abiding people, further inconveniencing them unnecessarily while not curbing crime in the least. It is simply and obviously designed by its proponents to make gun ownership as onerous as possible and that is in direct contravention of the clear intention of the Constitution.
Fourth: Why is nothing being done on Fast and Furious and the other gun-running schemes of the Justice Dept before trying to make gun ownership as difficult as possible? Congress making laws to inconvenience the law-abiding while ignoring the facilitation of guns used in crimes in Arizona is both perplexing and vexing.
Any of those reasons should be sufficient but there are more, as I’m sure you’re being informed. Please think of the freedom of the people who vote for you.
So I’m not an idiot, I knew what the response would be, a form letter based on one keyword. Duh.
I wanted to see exactly what he was planning on doing. When I sold cars I learned to hear what people meant. If they said, “I like performance” and you showed them a Corvette when they meant, “long lasting and reliable”, you didn’t sell many cars.
So let’s see what he says and what he means. I’ll be in [bold italics]
Thank you for contacting my office regarding the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, and its impact on federal gun legislation. I appreciate your taking the time to share your views with me. [See, I didn’t contact you about Sandy Hook ES, I contacted you exclusively about one possible reaction to it. Perhaps a subtle distinction, but I think it’s a huge tell that he immediately waves dead kids.]As you know, on December 14, 2012, a mentally unstable gunman committed a senseless atrocity by murdering twenty students and six staff members at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newton, Connecticut. While many Americans continue to try to rationalize this tragedy it remains clear that the inhumane and depraved actions of this individual gunman appear to be motivated solely by his extremely disturbed mental state. [Good paragraph. At first I thought you were going to wave them around some more, but you ended on the right note. It almost makes me hope the next paragraph is “So we won’t be jerking the law-abiding around to not stop the crazy”, but I’m not that kind of idiot.]On January 16, 2013, President Obama and his administration introduced a twenty-three point plan which lays out both executive and legislative proposals [that’s right baby, tear into that shit, please. please] that would attempt to prevent future violence. [attempt but fail, keep going baby, you’re doing so well :hope, hope, hope) As the details of the President’s proposals become more clear, I look forward to reviewing them [Hope. Crushed,] and working with my colleagues to find sensible solutions [fuck] that respect the Second Amendment but also help us prevent these type of horrific events from ever happening again. [fuckity fuck fuck fuck.]While I am an unwavering supporter of the Second Amendment,[There should be a period there not a ” BUT” ] please know that I will seriously consider all reasonable public safety legislation that comes before the Senate. [You know, that was pretty much the fucking opposite of what I asked. Actually, you don’t know and you don’t fucking care. But I knew that before I started.]Thank you once again for contacting my office. Please do not hesitate to do so on this or any other issue of concern.I don’t do oppo research that often, but thanks for the offer
So as we see, he’s hell bent on voting “Yes” on something that’s going to piss me the fuck off.
Which makes me realize something,
I really miss Obama as a senator. I mean, when you’re voting “Present”, you’re not making things worse, and that’s about the best we could hope for from Illinois.
It’s true what they say, you don’t realize how much you like something until you lose it and it destroys your nation’s economy, integrity, rule of law and respect on the international stage.
