The long dark work tunnel is finally clear and just in time for me to spectate the end of the world.
With the addition of an erupting volcano on the island of Kyushu, the events in Japan have not officially entered the Biblical classification. I have to say, compared to the events in Southeast Asia in 2004 and more recently in Haiti, this one is a lot more personally frightening, probably because Japan is so similar to the U.S. Any of those waves just as easily could have been hitting Kenosha when seen from a bird’s eye view. Awful.
As a side note, I’d like to point out that, while Japan is one of the largest economies on the planet, they are up to their eyes in debt and it remains to be seen how effective their government will be at procuring the funds to help their people so any generosity you can spare will not be wasted. This will almost certainly go down in history as the most costly disaster in history.
Also, a hat tip to the engineers and policy makers in Japan who endured terrible expense to build their infrastructure to withstand powerful earthquakes. One needs only to watch this video to realized that the tens of thousands missing or dead would have easily been hundreds of thousands were it not for that ingenuity and foresight .
Anyway, prayers to everyone effected by these events and god speed to American military personnel putting their lives in danger to help.
