I’m shocked… that she’s shocked.
Bloomberg talked to UW-Madison Political Science Professor Katherine Cramer Walsh (bold added):
Resentment in those [rural] areas helps explain support for Republican Governor Scott Walker’s push to restrict the collective bargaining rights of some unions, said Katherine Cramer Walsh of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She noticed the bitterness while doing research in 27 communities, where many residents work multiple jobs without benefits while local government employees have health coverage and pensions.
“I heard a lot of comments and conversations about the rural-urban divide in our state,” said Walsh, an associate professor of political science. “I was very struck by how resentful people in so-called outstate Wisconsin are of Madison and Milwaukee.”
Um… no shit? It’s funny how unemployed and underemployed folks don’t want to be taxed to death to pay for cushy benefits for spoiled union workers. Or sports stadiums. Or economic development corporate welfare. Or urban mass-transit that they’ll never use.
For a lady who teaches about political psychology, it’s amazing how detached her perspective can be.
At least she bothered to go out among the plebs and learn something…
To paraphrase Ms. Cramer-Walsh, I am shocked to learn that those more enlightened folks in Madison-Milwaukee actually think of the other areas of their same state differently. Perhaps, Ms. Cramer-Walsh, that is the source of their bitterness and anger? That someone, like you Ms. Cramer-Walsh, who is paid an exorbitant salary (taken by force from those “outstaters”) to actually sit down and think up ridiculous notions like this- instead of doing real work- holds these same “oustaters” in contempt and condecension maybe that is where the bitterness comes in.
Conservatives are
The Gorillas in the Mist
To urban elites…
Hey! Give her a break!
Since Cramer-Walsh has two names,
She gets twice your pay!
She needs to look at the numbers – Walker’s support came from the Milwaukee suburbs, and the other thing is that Walker’s all about “economic development” so he won’t last too long once he starts wasting public dollars on corporate boondoggles.
FEOCE …the saga continues.
…they just be-clown themselves these days, don’t they. Totally. Oblivious.
