You’re Innocent? Pay The Man.

Unfuckingbelievabile. Of course, it happened in an unfree place, but still.

Motorists issued a traffic ticket in Massachusetts will have to pay money to the state whether or not they committed the alleged crime. According to a state supreme court ruling handed down yesterday, fees are to be imposed even on those found completely innocent. The high court saw no injustice in collecting $70 from Ralph C. Sullivan after he successfully fought a $100 ticket for failure to stay within a marked lane.

Muddafuckas. I can tell you one thing about Massachussetts, they love to give tickets to out of staters who will not fight.

I see them starting to give out more tickets to in-staters and raising the cost of fighting to more than the cost of paying the ticket.

Why on Earth would anyone with the slightest concept of liberty live there?

  2. alexthechick says:

Yup, that happens pretty much everywhere. It’s an “administrative fee” not a fine, no, no, nothing at all like that.

But usually they only charge you when you’re guilty, right?
It takes a special kind of disregard for free men to charge people for being innocent.

      • alexthechick says:

Nope, the fee applies regardless of the outcome of the ticket. It’s bullshit but it’s been upheld pretty much everywhere.

I’m assuming that the rulings upholding the fee have nothing to do with the fact that in most jurisdictions that “fee” goes into the judiciary budget. That’s just an utter coincidence.

  3. There are no free subjects in Massachusetts.

    Pirates.

    Hang ’em all.

…and we will you know. It’s coming.

    To their surprise.

    “Unexpectedly”.

…and y’know? – I think I actually am more than half serious here. Maybe it’s just Gloomy Monday, but the deluge of apocalyptic headlines and pontificators THIS morning have me thinking extremely pessimistic bad thoughts.

This was just a piece of the whole.

    We’re living in interesting times.
