Forget Sparkly Teenage Vampires, Watch The Muppets Instead

Watched The Muppets, and yes, they’re back!  It was well done, classic Muppets, with a healthy mix of new stuff and nostalgia fueled goodness.  There were one or two bits that were a little weak, one in particular comes to mind, which I won’t go into detail on so not to be a spoiler, but there were several parts that were truly clever and more than made up for the weak bits.

I did enjoy the fact that in true Muppets fashion, they do break the fourth wall in the film.  Amy Adams was excellent and Jason Segel was quite good.  The cameos were great, it was fun to watch for them.  The eeeeevil Oil tycoon guy was generally entertaining, sorta straddles the line between playing the role seriously or as a goof on the hacky hollywood eeeevil tycoon.

It did need more of these guys, and they generally reflect my view of the film,

I saw an interview with jason segal, I think on “The Today Show,” and he really was sincere about how he approached the movie, he’s a cowriter. He said something like “Oh, R rated Jason Segal is going to write it, wink wink, but I really cared about the muppets and I approached it that way, because I cared. The Muppets, Kermit in particular never wanted to hurt anyone.”

It was a really good interview. I looked for it, but I couldn’t find it on youtube.

And a few years ago my kids are going to be googling that kid from The Muppet Movie and get the full frontal image from Forgetting Sarah Marshall…

Srsly, I adore Jason Segal, I wanted to take my kids to this opening weekend but I was getting too much lip. Maybe this weekend.

I need to see this, everyone I’ve seen it has loved it. And, yeah, every interview I’ve seen with Jason Segal he’s been very earnest and sincere about how much he loved the Muppets and you can tell he was determined to do his very best to live up to the Muppet legacy.
