HTMLidays

I love Intertube holidays. They’re some of my favorites (except for Talk Like a Pirate Day).

Thursday is EATAPETA day. That’s “Eat A Tasty Animal for PETA” day.

I like to celebrate it by eating baby animals, like veal or lamb, since I don’t think it’s a meal unless there’s is some sort of dead animal involved every day is “Eat A Tasty Animal” day.

This year I’m going to see if I can find a place that serves squab.

One year, I’m going to go to Canada and club baby seal for it. I figure that’ll be the perfect way to celebrate.

So on Thursday, make sure you eat a tasty animal and if you’re in a good mood, take a pic and mail it to PETA and tell them you’re doing it in their honor.

Next month is, of course, my favorite Intertube Holiday, Buy A Gun Day.

I’m not sure what I’m going to get this year. I thought about a Ruger LC9, but I might get something else. Eh, I’ll probably go into the gun store on 4/15 and see what’s there. I live in a rednecky area and the gun store is freaking awesome. They have Saiga 12s, who wouldn’t want an AK clone, semi-auto 12 gauge that takes a 20 round drum mag? Since my only shotguns are a coach gun and a .410/.22 over/under, I’m thinking I need another one.

I observe the EATAPETA holiday everyday. Although, I do get all my animal products from local farms. I prefer my chickens, pigs, and cows to be healthy animals and not those horror movie victims mass produced on factory farms.

    • Storm Saxon's Gall Bladder says:

“Factory Farms” are efficient, and therefore cheap. They produce something we can afford, and the animals are dead when i get the meaty bits so they don’t care how far they traveled or how smug i am about choosing local. Should get a truckload of dead things at the restaurant today; got a lot of cutting to do reducing a 35 pound slab of cow into half inch cubes for the beef curry. It’s on lunch special for $8.95, which would be $12.95 if we had to insure the cow had a pleasant, free range life.

      • Dejah Thoris says:

I understand that. I’m not attempting to sound smug. I worked on a farm when I was 13, bought my own calf to raise and sell for beef. When I was young, my mom traded hair-cuts for milk and eggs with locaI farmers. I simply choose to pay more for grass-fed beef and leukemia-free chickens. I can afford to do this, because I do not indulge in other things that others choose to do.
I am aware of the costs of providing cheap food to consumers and I accept that not everyone gives a shit about the same things that I do, which is fine and dandy, and the awesome American Way. I can be a softy about animals if I want to, so chill out.

  2. I bought one of those LC9’s a while back. Its now my favorite 9mm. Fits the hand really well.

And, like Dejah above, I try to eatapeta every day.

    The baconbeast is my favorite…

I like the Ruger best of pocket 9s, but that’s leaving out the Kel Tec, I don’t know how good they are. I don’t go out of my way to get high dollar guns (usually), but I do try to avoid cheap stuff.

I should do a kel-tec post to get some fanboys out and see what they say.

    veeshir,

I treated myself to a nice marlin lever action 336 last year. A really fun rifle to shoot.

On a whim I also picked up a WWII surplus mosin/nagant 91/30 Russian sniper rifle, still packed in cosmoline. Haven’t shot it yet, but looking forward to cleaning it up and taking it to the range.

  4. Goober says:

Just so you know, seal is absolutely delicious. I’m not going to tell you how I know that…

    • Dejah Thoris says:

That’s probably why the Inuits insist on the right to hunt them, because they are good eating. Of course, apparently the Dodo was also tasty…and slow.

The Husband has told me that lizard and monkey is quite tasty as well. He’s pretty certain that he might have eaten dog while deployed to South America, and apparently man’s best friend is also quite delicious.

  5. FallGuy says:

I am somewhat surprised that you did not mention the holiday coming up this Wednesday, March 14th . . . Pi Day!

Any reason for pie is good!

    • veeshir says:

Darn, I forgot about that one. Thanks for reminding me.
There’s a diner near here that sucks, it’s too clean and too overpriced, but they have good pie. I know where I’ll be going tomorrow.

  6. alexthechick says:

Om om om eatapeta day is one of my fave holidays as well. So much so I celebrate it every day!

    • veeshir says:

That’s why I eat make sure to eat baby animals for it.

I haven’t found any squab, I do have a bottle of marsala wine so I think I’ll just make veal marsala. I haven’t had that in years.

  7. […] to FallGuy for the reminder, if you’re gonna commit a crime you might want to use his services. Share […]

    “Hot Dogs Cause Butt Cancer”

LOL, I know it’s from the health nazis, but it is funny. Hot dogs are yummy, but I don’t think anyone has ever tried to make an effort to emphasize their nutritional value.
