Fuck the AMA

I’m growing extremely tired of reading that these stupid pricks are once again trying to use government force to restrict personal liberty.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. – C. S. Lewis

It may be overquoted, but it’s just the perfect response.

Well, I mean, he usually does, but this paragraph from this article sums up the entire difference between the Left and the Right:

The billionaires and the many, many others fueling the anti-Bush coffers in 2004 believed that the 43rd president had lied America into an unjustified and probably unwinnable war. I didn’t agree but, hey, it’s a free country and people should be free to try to elect the candidate of their choice.

From my observations over the (far too) many years I’ve been following politics, the Left doesn’t actually believe that. By and large the Left does seem to believe that the Right is evil, not wrong, and that there is something fundamentally wrong with the process when the Left’s preferred candidate loses. On the other hand, the Right, for the most part, believes that if the Right’s preferred candidate loses, then there was a problem with the candidate or the campaign. Yes, there is some discussion of voter fraud and Blofeld Soros but the Right does not consider a loss to be a reflection of the problems with democracy itself.

It has been apparent for years that the Left and the Right hold fundamentally conflicting views about reality itself. I have a fear that when that conflict finally comes to a head, the results will be bloody.

This whole having-a-job thing has seriously cut into my seemingly pointless blogging habit.  Anywho…

Oh joy, The Black Death is back.  Bring out yer dead.

So we’re back to the “racism” thing again with criticism of Obama. I am simultaneously exasperated and amused.  The left is like a dog with a bone with this whole racism thing.

Cancel my subscription to the Jeb Bush Super-fan newsletter.  I actually don’t care that he rebuffed the Norquist pledge, but don’t invoke Reagan’s name to slam conservatives.  Not cool.  Bad Jeb!

Apparently the Obamacare IPAB is worse than I thought from a constitutionality perspective.

I hate to disagree with Jimmy P’s call to break up the banks, but I don’t think that ultimately solves the problem.  I’d be much more inclined to address the problem from a capitalization/leverage standpoint.

Permabull Larry Kudlow wonders whether we’re in (another) global recession. Oh boy. (By the way, corporations aren’t hoarding as much cash as you think.)

I should have just gone into quantum physics.

Don’t forget, two-hour “Falling Skies” on Sunday.

Sometimes it’s too bad that you can’t just buy away someone’s license to practice law.  If you could, I’m fairly certain there would be enough donations to get Charles Carreon banned from practicing law forever.

Obligatory rendition of Charles Carreon’s mom.

Carreon demanded [$20,000] as penance for a blog post that Inman wrote stating that humor site FunnyJunk was stealing content from The Oatmeal, Inman’s website. Inman responded by pledging to raise the money Carreon requested, and then to donate it in equal parts to the National Wildlife Foundation and the American Cancer Society (also known as “Operation BearLove Good, Cancer Bad“).

The entire Oatmeal rant for Bearlove Good, Cancer Bad is here.  Fans of The Oatmeal have donated $170,000 so far, to be split between the American Cancer Society and the National Wildlife Federation.  Donations are being accepted for the next ten days or so.

It’s her professio…enthusiasm I respect.  I’m far more bothered by the fact that Omaha was ready to pay her as a public employee $275K than by the emails and affair.   Especially if she was dumb enough to engage in an affair and send emails of that nature on her work email as a public employee.  And hey, at least it ain’t a student, that’s a refreshing change!

Obligatory,

Not obligatory, but seems fitting.  You may not want to play this one at work or around little ears,

And just because,

I have moved on from Russian pop music (at least for tonight) to German pop music and thought I would broaden your cultural horizons while I am at it:

Novaspace – Beds are Burning

Run to You

They’re done.

Some Aussie swimmers were in California for some reason and got their hands on some shotguns in a gun store, took a picture and posted it on Facebook.

Shitstorm ensues.

Swimmers Nick D’Arcy and Kenrick Monk have been ordered to remove Facebook photos of themselves posing with high powered guns…

“I doubt they have the moral sensitivity to be concerned about human suffering.”

“We say again to our athletes, do not put anything up on social media that you would not share with your mother or your grandmother.”

Okay,  that would be funny if it weren’t Australia. That just depresses me. I especially like the way the shotguns are always “High-Powered Guns” in the story.

As Tim Blair notes, far more children (It’s For The Children!!!! Won’t Someone Please Think Of The Children!?!?!?!?!?!!?!) drown than die from guns, even in America where we leave loaded guns in cribs, so… actually these swimmers are just trying to steer children toward a safer alternative.

At one time I actually thought Australia might be a good fallback country, no more. I’m down to about 10-15 states and no other  countries where I could live. I need to win the lottery and buy an island and make it my own country, or maybe stage a coup in some African craphole.

Heartbreaking tragedy

I’m completely out of The Macallan.

At least until I pick up another bottle.  I’m not much of a Doors fan, BTW, it just seemed fitting, because when you realize you’re out of a sweet ambrosia like The Macallan, your first reaction is,

Then you realize that just gives you an excuse to try something new.  Yay! I have some Laphroaig, but Laphroaig’s definitely one of those you gotta be in the mood for type, I do have some Jameson 12 year as well, but obviously, it ain’t scotch.  Anyone got any suggestions as far as scotch to try?  I tend to go for single malts, but I’m open to blends, so long as they don’t break the bank, I’m not about to shell out more for Johnny Walker than a good single malt.

Overwhelmingly White Crowd

Wow–these fat, white, older, well-to-do astroturfers who presume to speak for average Americans sure do seem to have a diversity problem. I mean, this group of doughy old haters probably wouldn’t be caught dead at a Pat Boone concert for fear that he might do a Chuck Berry cover, if you know what I mean.

Cue MSM handwringing over the lack of minority participation in this political movement in 3…2…oh, wait
