No really, who gives a shit?
So there’s a BIG BUDGET DEAL!!!!!!!!!!!! and the Republic is Saved!!!!!!!
Saw that link at Ace where that guy explains why the GOP should reject it.
He says because it’s a huge spending increase but they swear they’re going to cut the budget in 10 years.
Eggs-fucking-zactly.
The worst part, for me, was watching the 30 seconds of the press conference where I saw Ryan say they were cutting the budget by $23 billion.
So they’re over a $trillion in the hole every fucking year and they’re cutting a measly fucking 23 billion? I guess $23 billion is all focus grouped and shit.
The worst part? The part that pisses me off even more than all the rest?
As we all fucking know, but all the right people seem to pretend this isn’t so, it’s that the $23 billion “cut” is not a fucking cut at all, it’s a “cut” in the fucking increase.
And to make that shit worse, and why it pisses me off the most, is that the amount they were going to increase is a made up fucking number.
They’re cutting an insultingly small number from the projected increase in a hugely bloated budget and Paul Fucking Ryan is pretending that means jack shit.
Fucking Ryan, I used to like him so much, then he showed himself to be a typical establishment-type GOPer when he joined Team Romney and sold out. It’s only been downhill since.
And don’t tell me, “They need to do shit like this to work with Democrats.”
Why?
The Dems just got done going all nuclear and shit and now the GOP is supposed to sell out their base to make nice?
Eh, at least it’ll hasten the end. The suspense is killing me.
Update
I just realized the purpose of this deal. Drudge has links to “Boehner happy”, “Obama Happy”, “Rubio Not Happy”, “House Conservatives could still scuttle.”
The purpose to go after the conservatives and have a happy Tea Party Bashing by the We’re Better Than You Party.
It’s a continuation of the Shutdown That Was Caused By The Tea Party!!!!!!!!!!!
So another shutdown and it’s all my fault.
Since they can’t pass a budget, they’ll have to pass another Continuing Spending Trillions Resolution.
Thanks for the reminder about how cuts work in DC. I had almost started to think “hey, at least $23B is *something*..” And sure enough, you are right. It is sort of like the wife saying how much she saved by buying five pairs of black shoes because they were on sale.”
I am giving up expectations of govt spending even remotely needing to be analogous to personal spending.
And I am also starting to distrust any ass who waltzes into the political scene as the new messiah. Get in there, go in there in force (as in lots of reform minded people), kick ass, and run everyone out who even thinks about multiple terms.
Anytime you really like a politician you’re wrong.
I’d like to like Rand Paul, but I just don’t know.
One of the things that pisses me off is that most of the gov’t is on cruise control, medicaid, medicare and welfare are all hardwired and bureaucracy runs most of the rest.
Nobody can even try to change any of those things much less actually change them.
Recall, Rumsfeld was well hated before 9/11, he was trying to reform the bureaucratic hole that is the Dept of Defense. I knew a DOD bureaucratic and I spoke to more. They hated him with a passion within 4 months of him showing up. He kept expecting them to act as though they were in the private sector!!!!!
The nerve.
The whines were hilarious, they didn’t get their 1 1/2 lunches anymore. He expected them to stick to the 1/2 lunch allowed by the gov’t or work extra at the end of the day if they took longer.
Since we can’t do anything about the most expensive and onerous parts of gov’t, the only things left are SMOD or reality.
That $23B is over 10 years so you know that’s steaming bullshit
I didn’t know that.
Geez, if you’re gonna insult me at least say a $trillion.
That’s just rude.
Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare use up all of our tax income; Everything Else is financed by debt. No plan that touches these three can be passed by Congress, no plan which does not touch them means diddly squat for balancing the budget.
So i will fall back on the basic philosophies which have guided me soundly through life:
There is no problem which cannot be solved by a suitable application of high explosives.
A President (not this one, obviously) must direct military demolitions teams to blow up all the computers which process the SS, M and M systems and all their hundreds of terabytes of redundant backed up data. They can strike on a four day holiday weekend, pick up their Presidential pardons and be home grilling spotted owls in a welfare-free world by Monday afternoon. The President will make a brief speech to the effect of “y’all best find a way on your own,” and then tell the EPA and Education Department that they are scheduled for Wednesday.
Boom, baby. Problems mostly solved, except for the whining.
Don’t forget Homeland Security (most especially the TSA) and the dept of Energy, most of State and Interior and a heaping helping of Commerce.
The problem is, reality is going to have to do it and it’s not going to be pretty.
