Special forces dudes training “moderate rebels” (read, Jihadis who don’t explicitly claim al Quaeda as their mentors) are not thrilled about training jihadis like al Nusra.

“Nobody believes in it. You’re like, ‘Fuck this,’” a former Green Beret says of America’s covert and clandestine programs to train and arm Syrian militias. “Everyone on the ground knows they are jihadis. No one on the ground believes in this mission or this effort, and they know they are just training the next generation of jihadis, so they are sabotaging it by saying, ‘Fuck it, who cares?’”

“I don’t want to be responsible for Nusra guys saying they were trained by Americans,” the Green Beret added. A second Special Forces soldier commented that one Syrian militia they had trained recently crossed the border from Jordan on what had been pitched as a large-scale shaping operation that would change the course of the war. Watching the battle on a monitor while a drone flew overhead, “We literally watched them, with 30 guys in their force, run away from three or four ISIS guys.”

So budding jihadis or people who don’t actually want to fight. I’m sure that’s going to do great things for the region.

The people who understand this situation the least are in charge of the US.

According to a recent report by Mohammad Ballout, a journalist for the pro-regime Lebanese newspaper Assafir, the alleged security deal between Turkey and Russia allowed Turkish troops to enter Syria to prevent Syrian Kurds from establishing an autonomous administration along the Turkish border. The Assad regime would also cut support for Syrian Kurdish military units affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which Ankara considers a terrorist organization. In exchange, Turkey would stop arming rebels fighting the Syrian regime in Aleppo, Syria’s second city, and agree with Russian proposals to designate certain rebel groups as terrorists.

Wait, I mean strengthening our enemies and scaring our allies.

In Obama’s defense…getting Turkey to designate someone besides Israel as terrorists is a step forward.

So what’s the new deal gonna be?

Under the plan, the much-maligned Independent Police Review Authority will be replaced by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability. The new agency will have greater power to investigate alleged police abuse and the use of deadly force. It also will be able to recommend changes to police policy and procedure.

That’s gonna go well. Chicago cops don’t stand a chance. I do look forward to the changes in police policy and procedure from a bunch of Black Lives Matters activists you know will be running this agency.

The cops are going to be terrified to go after black criminals. So if you’re white and you want to commit a crime, I’d leave Chicago. If you’re black and you want to commit a crime, I’d migrate to Chicago.

the principal noted that a first-grade Syrian boy, who — upon finding out his teacher was not a Muslim — said, “You guys don’t believe in God so it would be better to kill you.”

 

Where do you think 1st graders learned that? I mean, we know it wasn’t from their refugee fathers, they’re just fleeing instability and want to start a new life.

I figure it’s from listening to Trump’s rhetoric.

That’s in Canada, but I’m sure we’re having similar problems that are being hidden. We’ll find out after the first, or maybe third or fourth time, a 1st grader rapes a classmate for not wearing a bag over her body or maybe a 2nd grader honor killing his 1st grade sister for having a boyfriend.

I’m not saying we should nuke St. Petersburg (although we should), but there has to some effective response we could have made. If only our POTUS hadn’t retired 20 minutes after his reelection.

Somehow, I don’t think this is exactly what MLK was hoping for when he wanted people to be judged on the content of their character rather than the color of their skin.
