Again.

I did something I was loathe loath to do, I figured out what it was going to cost me to get a new body for that engine.

I was going to have to spend probably $8-10k more to own two cars, a running El Camino and an albatross around my neck in the guise of a Caballero with an engine in the bed. Or… I could spend yet another couple grand, I’d hope but probably more knowing that fucking thing, and have a running Caballero worth maybe 3 or 4 grand. So for the low cost of $10-$12k on top of the nearly $10k I’ve already spent I’d have a car and an albatross and a lot less money to buy a house next year. I also have to spend another $1,500 to get the seats reupholstered in my Mustang and fix the BBK throttle body that’s 8 or 9 years old and acting up, I was going to have to put off the seats on the Mustang.

So I decided to keep the albatro….Caballero and, try (wish me luck on this shit) to go the classic car plates route so I don’t have to get emissions. I start school next month and it’ll take a year so next year I’ll move somewhere with no emissions.

I went to the DMV, they said I need Collector Car insurance. My insurance company needs pictures so tomorrow my plan is to register the thing and start driving it. Caballero plans tend to not work, so we’ll see.

The guy who was trying to get it emissioned did a bunch of work on it and it’s finally right. He adjusted the carb and timing, which none of the other people seemed to know how to do correctly, which the first asshole made sure was necessary by taking them off a tuned engine for some inexplicable reason and the 4th or 5th guys screwed up the timing trying to make a top-end car (power band at 5,000+ rpm) into an off-the-line car.

They’re the ones who wanted me to change the carb, I have a brand new Holley 750 4bbl that Blueprint said was right, and distributor, I have new HEI distributor again that Blueprint said was right, to make it faster off the line, which every other mechanic said was not going to work. A bigger, differently geared, rear-end and a manual transmission would be the way to do that according to my buddy in VA.

I might still do that, but if I do then I’d have to relive my teen years and take up power-sliding again… I mean, take up drifting.

I will say that in 1982-84 I did far more exciting ‘drifting’ in my 72 Cutlass Supreme with an Olds 350 4bbl. It was my specialty. I used to give rides. Hell, when I was  16-18 and learning that shit in my 72 Dart with the 196 straight six I did 360s far better than that, on snow and ice cuz a 196 can’t make the tires spin on pavement, but still. I used an egg-timer to track my 0-60 on that Dart.

So my plan is to put the Mustang under a cover and drive the Caballero for the summer and then contrariwise when I can put the top down. I am not looking forward to dealing with the Caballero again, but I hope I found a mechanic HeyZeus has not gotten to. The bastid.

Primary season is going to be even more interesting than when Tea Partiers were trying to get rid of them. Tea Partiers were still polite and respectful. Today, those people are sick and tired of being called vicious names by all our fine betters in DC and minitrue, they’re not going to be so polite. These findings are pretty typical, though the collapse of Obamacare and the GOP bills to fix it have caused health care to surge higher than usual. But look toward the center of the list. Russia, the issue that has dominated press coverage since the November election, scores a paltry 6 percent on Americans’ top concerns.

Notice where “taxes” is on that graph. They keep pushing that as if it was a big deal in the election but it was the lawlessness of the former admin, Obamacare and illegal immigration that Trump rode to victory. That stuff is not important to our fine media betters though so they ram their priorities down our throats.

I don’t find anything “dignified,” “collegial” or “proper” about Barack Obama’s lying about what went down on the streets of Ferguson in order to ramp up racial hatreds because racial hatreds serve the Democratic Party.  I don’t see anything “dignified” in lying about the deaths of four Americans in Benghazi and imprisoning an innocent filmmaker to cover your tracks.  I don’t see anything “statesman-like” in weaponizing the IRS to be used to destroy your political opponents and any dissent.  Yes, Obama was “articulate” and “polished” but in no way was he in the least bit “dignified,” “collegial” or “proper.”

Home Secretary Amber Rudd will today propose to make possessing them illegal everywhere, whether in public or at home.

A long list of dangerous weapons that glamorise violence will also be included in the total ban, putting them on the same legal footing as unlicensed firearms.
