I’d like to complain about something, why didn’t anybody tell me about CNN politics twitter feed? It’s the height of ridiculousness and even funnier than Iowahawks twitter feed.

Once upon a time there was a liberal media. Like most left-leaning institutions it worked hard to prove its progressive premises. Democrats were good and Republicans bad. The police and the military were bad. Social welfare spending and diplomacy were good. Israel was bad and the PLO was good.

This was the thing we used to nostalgically call media bias.

Yup, and if they have to ignore stories that hurt Dems, like all the collusion, hacking and felonyizing of the DNC, while fakenewsing and lying using anonymous sources  to Get Trump! subverting our democracy is the price they’re willing to make us pay!

Whenever I see a story about newsrooms cutting staff I laugh. Fuck them. They abused their position, if they want to be house organs for putative dictators they can move to Russia, Cuba or Venezuela. They’re already lying for China so moving there would be redundant.

Add in a rider that McCain has to go to the VA in Phoenix and at least something would be right in the world.

If he reversed Obama’s Obamacare waivers by giving waivers to people who didn’t have them and taking them away from politically powerful assholes who are busy Getting Trump would be all about teh awesome as CNN explains how they were fine when Obama was illegally telling people they could break the law but Trump doing the same thing is the End Of The Republic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Which leads us to a good question whose time is still coming.

An even better question would be, “Can the GOP be saved if Trump wins?” as we spend the next 4 years with them calling their base a bunch of assholes instead of trying to figure out why the people who used to vote for them and send them money are telling them to fuck off.

I’m still not sure, the GOP is doing everything they can to piss on and piss off their voters so the jury is still out. Forming a new party would be tough but if the GOP continues to be unresponsive and rudely dismissive of its voters it might be necessary.  2018 and 2020 are going to be interesting.

 

This is what happens when a gov’t decides its voters are a bunch of assholes who need to shut up.

There is no conceivable way a majority or even a plurality of Venezuelan people would vote in favor of chaining themselves into the slavery and misery of a Cuba-style tyrannical dictatorship. So the only only option available left for Cuba’s puppet dictatorship in Venezuela is to force it through by using the only tactics they know: Violent repression and murder.

Hillary was their best chance for that last part, her enemies have a bad habit of committing suicide after all.

They’d love to do that here, that’s why they keep trying to take our guns. And that’s why we have them. Just ask Thomas Jefferson, James Madison and George Washington.

Their problem is that most of the people with guns are not onboard with the gov’t violently taking away our rights. That’s why the last three admins were busily arming federal agencies with no law enforcement powers.

In Eastern Europe War News, totally not Russian military!

Russia is prudently escalating the situation in Donbas, while trying to remain publicly beyond the conflict. Volodymyr Groysman spoke about the country’s overhaul by his government. Arseniy Yatsenyuk called for a balance in power, reminding of his own political ambitions. Yuriy Lutsenko publicly criticized his subordinates in Dnipro. Against the backdrop of the parliamentary holidays, several parties tried to show off their activity.

 

I seriously can’t decide if I want to get into a war with Russia in the Middle East or in eastern Europe.

On the one hand, in the Middle East we have only one true ally, Israel, with one sorta ally, Jordan, so fighting there would be tough as we would have to fight everybody except the Kurds while in the eastern Europe we’d have former SSRs on our side.

But in the Middle East Russia would have to deal with ‘allies’ who would turn on them at the drop of a kefiya so they’d be embroiled with fighting their ‘allies’ almost as much as they’d have to fight us.

Add in nuclear war between Iran and Pakistan-supplied Saudi Arabia and Russia would be almost as fucked as we would be.

I have to wonder if Mattis could make it look as though were going to get involved and then turn around and point and laugh as Russia fights all the people they just got done arming. Iran is nobody’s puppet, Tsar Putin I is all about installing tsarlings. While Assad in Syria is a puppet-dictator, the mad mullahs are a lot of things, but tsarlings they ain’t. They’re used to installing shahs to be under the Shahinshah. That would lead to a different, three-sided war between Iran, Turkey and Russia.

Could be interesting. Although Israel and Jordan might have different words to describe it.

Engineers baffled by ‘microaggression’ workshop at conference

A recent academic conference on advanced manufacturing techniques was interrupted for an hour-long workshop on microaggressions.

Louisiana State University hosted its second annual Consortium for Innovation in Manufacturing and Materials (CIMM) RII Symposium on July 24, but some attendees who showed up expecting to learn about advances in engineering were surprised to find themselves instead “dealing with snowflakes and trigger warnings.”…

The post included a screenshot of the Symposium’s agenda confirming that a “workshop/panel discussion” on “implicit bias, stereotypes, microinsults, microaggressions, [and] Title IX” took place immediately before the conference broke for lunch.

“At one point they had us write a microaggression that we gave or someone gave us,” the post continued, providing several pictures of a bulletin board covered with the resulting sticky notes.

They want to make sure engineers support Trump. Not sure why but there it is.

Iowahawk has a solution!

Hell, I’d have them try to add fractions or try to figure out the third side of a right-triangle given two sides and all three angles. That would be hilarious enough. I haven’t seen Dunkirk, but apparently angry lefties are even more wrong about that movie than even I thought! This guy helpfully reviewed the movie in a diversity lens.

Yesterday, I reviewed the new movie, Dunkirk.  Reader mrgarabaldi pointed out that there has been a kerfuffle due to the relative lack of non-white and/or female characters.  Well, I’ve done a bit of digging, and found out that Mr. Nolan had to cut out a lot of content to make the movie fit into his allotted length…

If you’re looking for African-American characters, have no fear.  Nolan used black actors for all of the German aircrews.  The bomber crews, of course, were female.
The u-boat captain, whose deleted scenes run to almost three hours, is a woman of south Asian and Filipino heritage.  You’ll know her by the black swastika embedded in her ruby nose ring.
