This election is going to be……

I still can’t get the right adjective for what I expect, but I don’t think any incidental funny will outweigh all the vicious, violent, frustratingly-dishonest endy.

 

I drove to NY this week, there has to be an ocean in the way for me to deal with the assholes at the TSA.

I was going to visit a friend on the way but when I called he said he was going to NY as well so I picked him up instead. He was going to take the train but now he’s just taking it back home.

On the drive from IL to NY I discovered he was his southern IL county’s Dem treasurer, had run for office as a Dem and an ardent Hillary! supporter.

He started harping on the problems of GOP disunity when I asked him about the problems of the Dems. He was much less animated about that subject. He was pretty mad at Bernie’s peeps because he thought they’d be unfaithful to Hillary!. They gave county Dem money to help Hillary! get elected but they only did stuff like bring some crappy food for Bernie’s campaigns and demanded that they be allowed to speak, which speak involved telling them that everybody loved Bernie but they really needed to get behind the Golden Cow when the general election happened. He said the speaker was booed regularly when they tried that gambit.

The conversation was pleasant and not angry or anything as I didn’t feel like arguing stupidities for 18 hours, but I thought it occasionally pretty funny.

At one point I said that if Hillary wasn’t indicted the rule of law was absolutely dead in America. He nodded knowingly and agreed that if Hillary was indicted the rule of law was dead. He was very surprised when I explained I had said the opposite of what he had heard. Shocked even.

My personal favorite moment was when he brought up corrupt Chicago pols, I said, “Chicago is known for pizza, corrupt politicians and gangsters.” He laughingly agreed.

I said, “You know, Obama is not a pizza.”

I thought I had a flat tire the THUD was so loud.

I never would have forgiven myself if I had not taken that straight line and knocked it over the fence for the game-winning field goal. 2 points!

First, why is everybody talking about the Sony deal as a cyberterrorists when they threatened to kill Americans who went to theaters showing this?

I mean, it was bad when they went after Sony folks cyberterroristically, but then they changed to Hezbollah/IRA terrorism of just killing people. That’s not cyber, that’s terrorism.

Second, did I just see Charles Krauthammer say we needed to give the gov’t vast, sweeping powers and trust them and then, even crazier, Mara Liasson disputed that? Yes, yes I did. And so did you if you were watching the 6:30 panel (4:30 MT time).

I thought the Judge was going to blow his stack but he was far more calm than Charles’ statement deserved.

I’m a professional, don’t try this at home.

 

In December I wrote a post saying that Steyn really needed to pay more attention to his employers at NR.

I noted that they’re not really all that into free speech, just the type that our social, moral and intellectual betters like.

Oeberon linked an article about how NR was all on Steyn’s side.

I responded thusly.

Ain’t buying it.
He wrote that only after Steyn’s editor doubled down and set up a further uproar and then finished it with a plea for money to fight Penn State going after their free speech.

Seems to me they’re worried about their free speech but still don’t like those damn teabaggers and Sarah Palin.

Now, we see this.

It now looks — go to Steynonline.com for the full story — as if Steyn is going to be up there on his own, fighting and financing his case without the support of his magazine, National Review; that the outcome is not as certain as it seemed at the beginning; and that this hero deserves all the help we can give him.

It’s linked at Steynonline so I assume that quote is accurate even though I can’t find Steyn specifically saying NR is abandoning him, but…

 

We do see Steyn noting he needs money for his defense and telling you how you can help.

NR apparently is not all that absolutist on free speech.

 

Just the right free speech. The type the establishment assholes at NR and their cocktail party friends like.

Sonomabatch, I used to like that magazine a lot. Now? I can’t even read  one of my favorite writers, Jay Nordlinger, after he went all in on Palin-hate.
