They did that shit for opposite reasons in relation to the legislation, Nancy wanted to pass the bill, McConnell wanted to not pass the bill. If you’re focused on fucking McCain and Collins, don’t. If Pass had more votes, more GOP senators would have happily voted no.

On the highway back from I heard a bad noise, for a second I thought it was engine related but then realized it sounded like something was dragging. I pulled over and when I stopped, it stopped. I was happy. I left the engine running when I got out.

When I opened the door the noise started again, for just a second I thought, “Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck!!!!!!!!!!!!! ME!” but it was just the side molding from the door that was dragging.

I can look back in laughter, it wasn’t so funny for a split second.

I’d like to complain about something, why didn’t anybody tell me about CNN politics twitter feed? It’s the height of ridiculousness and even funnier than Iowahawks twitter feed.

An even better question would be, “Can the GOP be saved if Trump wins?” as we spend the next 4 years with them calling their base a bunch of assholes instead of trying to figure out why the people who used to vote for them and send them money are telling them to fuck off.

I’m still not sure, the GOP is doing everything they can to piss on and piss off their voters so the jury is still out. Forming a new party would be tough but if the GOP continues to be unresponsive and rudely dismissive of its voters it might be necessary.  2018 and 2020 are going to be interesting.

 

This is what happens when a gov’t decides its voters are a bunch of assholes who need to shut up.

There is no conceivable way a majority or even a plurality of Venezuelan people would vote in favor of chaining themselves into the slavery and misery of a Cuba-style tyrannical dictatorship. So the only only option available left for Cuba’s puppet dictatorship in Venezuela is to force it through by using the only tactics they know: Violent repression and murder.

Hillary was their best chance for that last part, her enemies have a bad habit of committing suicide after all.

They’d love to do that here, that’s why they keep trying to take our guns. And that’s why we have them. Just ask Thomas Jefferson, James Madison and George Washington.

I seriously can’t decide if I want to get into a war with Russia in the Middle East or in eastern Europe.

On the one hand, in the Middle East we have only one true ally, Israel, with one sorta ally, Jordan, so fighting there would be tough as we would have to fight everybody except the Kurds while in the eastern Europe we’d have former SSRs on our side.

But in the Middle East Russia would have to deal with ‘allies’ who would turn on them at the drop of a kefiya so they’d be embroiled with fighting their ‘allies’ almost as much as they’d have to fight us.

Add in nuclear war between Iran and Pakistan-supplied Saudi Arabia and Russia would be almost as fucked as we would be.

I have to wonder if Mattis could make it look as though were going to get involved and then turn around and point and laugh as Russia fights all the people they just got done arming. Iran is nobody’s puppet, Tsar Putin I is all about installing tsarlings. While Assad in Syria is a puppet-dictator, the mad mullahs are a lot of things, but tsarlings they ain’t. They’re used to installing shahs to be under the Shahinshah. That would lead to a different, three-sided war between Iran, Turkey and Russia.

Yesterday, I reviewed the new movie, Dunkirk.  Reader mrgarabaldi pointed out that there has been a kerfuffle due to the relative lack of non-white and/or female characters.  Well, I’ve done a bit of digging, and found out that Mr. Nolan had to cut out a lot of content to make the movie fit into his allotted length…

If you’re looking for African-American characters, have no fear.  Nolan used black actors for all of the German aircrews.  The bomber crews, of course, were female.

Listen, I’m not sure if someone’s messing with just me or with a lot of us, but it’s really getting harder and harder to take anything I see in the news seriously.

Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain in 2012 turned over nearly $9 million in unspent funds from his failed 2008 presidential campaign to a new foundation bearing his name, the McCain Institute for International Leadership.

The institute is intended to serve as a “legacy” for McCain and “is dedicated to advancing human rights, dignity, democracy and freedom.” It is a tax-exempt non-profit foundation with assets valued at $8.1 million and associated with Arizona State University…

Critics worry that the institute’s donors and McCain’s personal leadership in the organization’s exclusive “Sedona Forum” bear an uncanny resemblance to the glitzy Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) that annually co-mingled special interests and powerful political players in alleged pay-to-play schemes.

The institute has accepted contributions of as much as $100,000 from billionaire liberal activist-funder George Soros and from Teneo, a for-profit company co-founded by Doug Band, former President Bill Clinton’s “bag man.” Teneo has long helped enrich Clinton through lucrative speaking and business deals.

In addition, the institute has taken at least $100,000 from a Moroccan state-run company tied to repeated charges of worker abuse…also accepted at least $100,000 from the Pivotal Foundation, which was created by Francis Najafi … has in the last three years given $205,000 to the National Iranian-American Council (NIAC), which has been a vocal advocate for the Iranian nuclear deal the Obama administration negotiated.

 

Which deal McCain supposedly opposed. Jeffrey Immelt is on the board. You know, the ‘Republican’ head of GE who was such good friends with Obama.

The worst part? That I believe.

This we’ve been watching happen for a long time. I’d say people who have California in the We’re Totally Boned pool still have hope, but those with Illinois have to be feeling hopeful.

With just 10 days to go until Illinois enters its third year without a budget, resulting in the state’s imminent downgrade to junk status and potentially culminating in a default for the state whose unpaid bills now surpass $15 billion, Democratic Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza issued a warning to Illinois Gov. Rauner and other elected officials on Tuesday, saying in a letter that her office has “very serious concerns” it may no longer be able to guarantee “timely and predictable payments” for some core services.

As we saw a few years ago when they gave out IOUs for lottery winners, they’re still having problem paying out on the most profitable ‘gambling’ deal there is.

Illinois is grappling with a full-fledged financial crisis and not even the lottery is safe – with Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner warning the state is entering “banana republic” territory.

You know how bookies go broke? They get a big hit they weren’t expecting, the lottery doesn’t have that problem as the payout goes up with pay-in, not odds.

The other ways they go broke are if their protection money is really high or the boss’ son comes in and takes the receipts.

In Illinois, they have both of those problems.

And let’s not forget that in the dog days of the Obama administration, alarmist scientists were so desperate to pooh pooh the “Pause” in the run up to the Paris climate talks that they concocted a junk science paper – now the subject of a federal investigation – which used dodgy data to try to airbrush the Pause out of history.

But wait! There’s Still More!!!!!!!!

A scientific consensus has emerged among top mainstream climate scientists that “skeptics” or “lukewarmers” were not long ago derided for suggesting — there was a nearly two-decade long “hiatus” in global warming that climate models failed to accurately predict or replicate.A new paper, led by climate scientist Benjamin Santer, adds to the ever-expanding volume of “hiatus” literature embracing popular arguments advanced by skeptics, and even uses satellite temperature datasets to show reduced atmospheric warming.

More importantly, the paper discusses the failure of climate models to predict or replicate the “slowdown” in early 21st century global temperatures, which was another oft-derided skeptic observation.

You have to love this

“In the early twenty-first century, satellite-derived tropospheric warming trends were generally smaller than trends estimated from a large multi-model ensemble,” reads the abstract of Santer’s paper, which was published Monday.

Can you study the climate and still notice reality? I didn’t think that was allowed.

What’s interesting, though, is Santer and his co-authors say their paper is “unlikely to reconcile the divergent schools of thought regarding the causes of differences between modeled and observed warming rates.”

Translation: This ain’t gonna change shit.

Not that I expected it to, I just like watching lefties notice reality before disappearing or learning not to go against the Consensus.

It’s funny how often people will get mad at you for saying something and then prove that what you said was true.

Here we have a totally tolerant Muslim explain her tolerance and desire for peace.

Think about how we felt 4 months ago. We were waiting for our gov’t go attack us, not metaphorically but physically. We were in year 8 of Recovery Summer that only helped those connected. The GOP was busily doing Failure Theater while attacking me barely less than they were attacking Trump. It was a dark and stormy time.

Then, we woke up on 11/9 and it was different. The Sun was brighter, the veal tastier, tears of leftists saltier. Like night and day.

It was different for some.

On the morning of November 9, 2016, America’s elite—its talking and deciding classes—woke up to a country they did not know. To most privileged and well-educated Americans, especially those living in its bicoastal bastions, the election of Donald Trump had been a thing almost impossible even to imagine. What sort of country would go and elect someone like Trump as president? Certainly not one they were familiar with, or understood anything about.

That just gave me a huge schadenboner.

With this bit of ultra-hilarity.

Now that those signals are no longer possible to ignore, it is high time for experts and intellectuals to reacquaint themselves with the country in which they live and to begin the task of describing what has befallen the country in which we have lived since the dawn of the new century.
