Lost Woman Looks for Herself in Iceland’s Highlands

No, it’s not some hippy chick looking for a drum circle.

The backstory.

A foreign tourist was reported missing in the volcanic canyon Eldgjáin the southern highlands on Saturday afternoon after she failed to return to her tour bus….

However, the search was called off at 3 am when it turned out that the missing woman had been on the bus all along and even participated in the search for herself,

I guess all Americans look the same to them.

I’m posting this to say I’ll be out of town for a few days so I probably won’t be posting till Monday.

What’s the difference between that and the last few weeks? I’ll be fucking freezing my ass off in Hampton Falls, NH instead of sweating it off in Apache Junction, AZ.

Yeah, Bitch…MAGNETS!

I’m surprised Vince Gilligan didn’t find a way to incorporate some Insane Clown Posse into the episode.

Sometimes it’s too bad that you can’t just buy away someone’s license to practice law.  If you could, I’m fairly certain there would be enough donations to get Charles Carreon banned from practicing law forever.

Obligatory rendition of Charles Carreon’s mom.

Carreon demanded [$20,000] as penance for a blog post that Inman wrote stating that humor site FunnyJunk was stealing content from The Oatmeal, Inman’s website. Inman responded by pledging to raise the money Carreon requested, and then to donate it in equal parts to the National Wildlife Foundation and the American Cancer Society (also known as “Operation BearLove Good, Cancer Bad“).

The entire Oatmeal rant for Bearlove Good, Cancer Bad is here.  Fans of The Oatmeal have donated $170,000 so far, to be split between the American Cancer Society and the National Wildlife Federation.  Donations are being accepted for the next ten days or so.

Resurgent Republic’s Target Voter Series – Good semi-nerdy stuff, mostly pre-digested for easy consumption.

On the heels of this report, Liz Cheney did not exactly say “no” to a future Senate run on her appearance on Fox News Sunday.  I, for one, welcome our new Cheney overlords.  Seriously.

Damn, that Gypsy fortune teller was good… oh, wait.

$10,000 bounty on SCOAMF’s college transcripts.

A few dozen ways Obama et al have hurt the recovery.

Read of the Week: “Let’s just say it: The Democrats are the problem“.

It ain’t the holodeck, but it’s pretty cool.

David Cameron takes a page from the Rick Santorum playbook.

Amusement: Harry Potter and Hermione play “the firetruck game“.

Roundup: Romney, Romney, Romney!

Posted: December 4, 2011 by socklessjoe in News, Op/Sped, Random Crap, Teh Funneh

(Note: title to be read similar to “Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!“)

(1) I think the Bret Baier interview with Romney is being over-analyzed. I don’t think Romney came across nearly as badly as some folks think. However, Baier’s questions were absolutely justified, and Romney needs to learn to “roll with it” better. His nervous laugh reminds me of Hillary’s cackles.

(2) That said, Romney’s weakness in the Huckabee forum is being under-analyzed.  Watch it again.  Romney starts around the 61-minute mark, and his answer on Mass-care -vs- Obamacare is abysmal.  He mis-characterizes Obamacare and tries to draw a distinction that is not only one without a difference, but one that, when the political spin is stripped away, actually plays right into Obama’s hands.  You see, under Obamacare, people will still have “private” insurance in much the same way that they do in Massachusetts. I may not have a lot of love for Newt, but he wouldn’t make that kind of mistake.

(3) Doug Mataconis has an interesting piece that tries to game-theory out what happens to the GOP if Obama wins re-election.  It’s a good read, but once again I need to comment on the pseudo-myth that McCain lost because he wasn’t conservative enough.  It may be a myth that McCain being more conservative per se might not have helped him, but being a free-spirited maverick-y squish sure didn’t help him in the actual timeline that we all experienced.  In a time of economic crisis, McCain had no conservative economic foundation from which to draw insight.  Without that, he forfeited the number-one issue entirely.

(4) The bitter clingers in PA are still not thrilled with Obama.

(5) A new government agency to secure our energy supply?  Eh… on one hand, I’m glad that somebody in Obamaland is thinking beyond the magnificent energy potential in magical unicorn farts, but do we really need more bureaucracy to do this?  How about we just stop over-regulating drillers to death?  Mmmkay?  And maybe start building that pipeline.

(6) A neat-o Christmas gift for the tea drinker in your life. (A-hem!)

(7) Watch Tim Meadows spoof Herman Cain in this not-especially-safe-for-work Funny Or Die bit.

We’ve all seen the many owwies* who are upset about how they have a college degree in such useful stuff as Gender Studies and Diversity Science and yet they can’t get a job.

Now we see this guy getting college credits for being an Occutard.

Seriously, that’s so meta I’d expect it to be a Dennis Miller joke.

Ninja Nun comic strip.

Pretty funny. I’ve been reading for a couple months or so and been meaning to link.

So apparently the Westboro Baptist Church decided to picket the Foo Fighters.

Apparently because of this video.

Which for some reason, reminded me of this.

I’d hat tip a certain person on this but something tells me she wouldn’t exactly appreciate our neck of the woods.
