The last 5 days have been utterly insane. I try not to look at stuff from Afghanistan but it’s so outrageously unbelievable and continuously adding more unbelievable outrageousness.

Much as I hate to do it, let’s start there.

I’m not posting the picture, but a bunch of goat and little boy fucking savages copied the iconic photo of the US Marines on Iwo Jima raising our flag.

Yes, they’re mocking the United fucking States fucking Marine fucking Corps.

In part thanks to the actions of Marine General “Mad Dog” Mattis and in accordance with his wishes.

I hope that motherfucking, oath-breaking, insurrectionist is fucking happy. It’s not my place, but the rest of the Marine Corps should declare the first ex-Marine.

And not just the Marine Corps, but they’re ordering all US military out of their ‘country’ by 9/11.

They probably want us out before whatever horrible terrorist attacks are going to happen on 9/11 so we’d have to decide to go back, get ready to go back and then actually go back. Which wouldn’t happen for the foreseeable future.

And in the Taliban’s defense, they’re entirely too mockable.

The Brit told him to go fuck himself, hopefully in those words. With other words questioning his manhood, parentage, procreational acumen and equipment. If it was a woman, I hope he made gender proper insults.

I was fer going in, not so thrilled with “nation building” where there has never been a nation. I did have a plan for leaving a few years ago, it involved bombing much of the country with fuel air explosives, nuking the Pak border and leaving a few Marines with Ospreys, some of the 10th Mountain and a shitload of A-10s and Apaches.

The nukes were possibly a bit much, but that would have been better than what we have now.

That’s all the Afghanistan I can take, let’s look at something happy!

I had a heck of a time getting home the other day.

A little personal business.

I’m pretty darn paranoid (but am I paranoid enough?), the other day I left work at about 12:45 am and got on the highway. I set my cruise for 80 so I don’t get a ticket (I love AZ), and passed a guy as soon as I got on the highway.

He sped up and started following me. I hadn’t come close to piss him off but, eh, I figured he just wanted me to get the ticket.

He got off at my exit, 10 or so miles later. He followed me through 4 lights to the right turn on my street, a major street. I noticed it but thought I was being too paranoid so didn’t worry about it. Much.

He turned into my trailer park. What the fuck? Now I’m really fucking paranoid. I went past my street and just went straight, if he followed me I was going to just pull over and get out to see what his deal was but he turned down my street. WTF? I was glad I didn’t turn that way because that would have freaked me out. I went around a block and saw him go up the next cross street, turn and pull into a driveway.

I figure he saw my car, knew it because he drives by my place a lot and there aren’t a lot of silver Mustang convertibles cruising the greater Phoenix metro area with a devilishly handsome, balding, silver-haired, fat guy driving.

For a second I thought Hayzeus was looking for my new place, good thing it wasn’t. I was gonna put sugar in his tank for a change.

I’m voting Trump. It’s not even really a hard decision.

Yes, he’s a jackass, and yes I kind of hate him. I was actually more interested than I generally care to admit that he caught COVID. But hey, Biden’s just really that bad. (And don’t get me started on Harris.)

With Trump, I get probably better than 50% of my policy preferences. And every once in a great while, something he does that I had opposed turns out to not even be that bad. Yes, he fumbled a bit early on with the pandemic, but I have zero confidence Biden (or Clinton) would have done any better given the previous administration’s performance and contemporaneous statements from earlier this year. Biden’s “plan” is partly cribbed from Trump, and partly a cop-out to acquiesce to expert advice, which may or may not mean lock-downs, depending on what suits Biden on any particular day. (FYI, Biden has no Constitutional authority for the national mask mandate he’s promising, irrespective of the merits of such a policy.)

With Biden, I know I’m getting approximately zero of what I want. At best, it’s a reversion to the Obama years, and that’s pretty damned bad. He’ll re-regulate everything that Trump deregulated, raise taxes, and we’ll go back to stagnant economic growth. Then, mysteriously, all of the unintended consequences of that taxation and regulation will somehow be the fault of greedy capitalists, and we’ll need to regulate and tax some more. Funny how that works.

Even worse, Biden might actually get some of the new things he’s campaigning on, like the $15k home tax credit, which is phenomenally moronic. Subsidize the purchase of an item with inelastic supply that’s generally bought with debt and… instant real estate bubble. I’m tempted to make an Alzheimer’s joke here about Biden’s short memory regarding the government-induced real estate bubble that ensured the election of the Obama-Biden ticket. But really, Biden’s been wrong about virtually every policy he’s ever touched for nearly five decades, so I can’t necessarily chalk that one up to senility. It’s actually impressive how wrong he’s been. On everything. Wrong, even when he was sharp, which if we’re being honest here, is no longer the case.

Now, for those of my friends who claim that “hate” is on the ballot, I have some bad news for you. You’re the victims of a really pathetic propaganda campaign. I mean, for starters, nobody is invalidating anybody’s marriage. Think Trump hates gay folks? Go ahead and Google “Richard Grenell”. Have you fallen prey to the “fine people” race hoax? I’m sorry that you’re stuck in a media bubble, but that’s ridiculous. It would be laughable if so many people didn’t take it so seriously, which is why Biden and Harris both repeated that lie. And have you noticed that Trump’s polling as well among Hispanic voters as Dubya? How did that happen? Show me on the doll where the Orange Man hurt you.

Which side is full of hate? The side that is lighting shit on fire is full of hate. Which side do you suppose business owners fear when they are boarding up their store fronts?

Nevertheless, I fully expect Biden to win. I find it difficult to believe that the polls are as wrong as they would need to be for Trump to turn it around. The dinosaur media and Big Tech social media have been giving a full court press, somehow outdoing all previous propagandizing efforts. And much as Biden is obviously a DC swamp creature, and almost certainly involved in the Russia-gate scandal, he’s not quite as hated and hate-able as Hillary Clinton.

A whine. I’m sick of the phone companies and computer companies and tech companies thinking they own my phone and my computer. I’m sick of my stuff constantly “updating”, which updates are usually just things they think I need, like changing the solitaire game or something equally important. Right now every time I play solitaire I get a dialogue box that asks if I want to go online and do fun stuff!!!. It doesn’t give me the option of “No”, I can do it now or later. Since I never play solitaire while I’m online, I think I piss it off.

My phone is full of Google apps. I keep turning them off and they keep turning back on. I can turn off “Google Location Service” a brazilion times and it comes back on a brazilion and one.

As most of us saw at Ace’s, Google does manually change searches so it’s harder to find stuff they don’t want us to find.

I’m about done with Amazon too. I just don’t trust those assholes. And we see this

My kindle is also always updating, I can’t stop them from doing it. They’re not fixing anything, they’re just putting in spyware and ads. When I buy a new book and connect to the tubes, it often takes 5 minutes or more before it starts downloading my books.

I’m going to start figuring out another way to get e-books. I will buy lots of actual books, but there are Kindle writers, but I’ll probably get some of them on paper. I am thinking of getting another cheap Kindle and never connecting with the one I now own again.

Now, like everybody I flirt with solipsism. How can you be sure you’re not the only real person? I mean, I think that but I’m not sure if you’re real. I would like to think I’d imagine a less stupid and annoying world, but who knows?

Which makes me think about starting a religion. It’d be sorta Buddhism, but more Jonathan Livingston Seagull where you can go to better world but I don’t want the goal to be nothingness.

You mix this with semi-solipsism. You see, some of us are real, the rest are like extras in movies. They’re just there as background while we real folk are the ones supposed to learn lessons and move ahead.

Read The Sea People, latest in the Dies the Fire series.

I really liked the first three books, Dies the Fire, The Protector’s War and A Meeting at Corvallis. They were very darn good. And very darn good for Stirling is very darn good indeed.

The next part of the series, with the kids of the originals, started getting too mystical for me but he’s such a good writer, and the books were excellent, so I kept reading.

After The Given Sacrifice, we’re on to the grandkids or great grandkids of the original folks, and now it’s all fantasy and quests and a plethora of magical swords. Seriously, every time you turn around there’s another one. Two good ones, so far, and some bad ones.

The Desert and the Blade was very good, the one after that pretty much sucked. He over-describes things, I accept that, but that book had too many 3-page descriptions of meals and a shitload of pages dedicated to describing Ranger flets, which have already been adequately described in previous books. It could have been about 20 pages long and we wouldn’t have missed very much.

The last one, The Sea People, was pretty good but I’m done with it. It was all magical swords and spirit voyages and shit.

I don’t read fantasy books much, I know lots of sci-fi is basically fantasy books with blasters instead of magic swords, but I do try to stick to hard sci-fi and stay away from deus ex machina stuff, like Star Trek TNG ‘inverting the subspace particle’ field to fix every damn thing or Q coming in and it was all a joke.

I saw an ad for the beginning of a new series about alternate history of WWI, hopefully it’s as good as other Stirling books.

Yesterday, I was very darn tired. I got like 3 hours of sleep and then had a busy day, I tubed a little at school but mostly didn’t.

Speaking of which, a school story. There’s one girl in our CNC class, she’s 17, tall, thin blonde and pretty, very Russian looking. It’s sorta funny as it’s mostly a guy’s club so we keep saying shit and then realizing we shouldn’t have said that in front of her. One guy said she was too shy and retiring which leads us to:

I asked her how she graduated so early so she could be in this class, after doing a welding class at another place, was she home-schooled? In AP classes? What? She said she had been kicked out of a few schools until she finally finished HS on her own, she already has an associates in graphic design. As she said, when she sits still for too long she gets ideas, and then gets into trouble. You’d never know it, she’s so quiet and always averts her eyes.
The idiotic classes at the beginning were for the welding class, autobody repair, CNC and meat cutters, it was full of 30+ bikers/former druggies, a couple young guys, a couple marines, me and her. She probably felt like a ball of yarn at a cat festival.

Fucking Tard Dog.

His 14th birthday is coming up and he’s been acting very old, he doesn’t even try to chase cats or get up to bark at passers by anymore. He pretty much stopped eating for a few days, not even McD’s cheeseburgers by Wed. I took him to the vet and he pretty much told me to put him to sleep (Kago, not the vet), he found a ‘growth’ in his abdomen.

So I spent a few days just waiting for him to die. It wasn’t a happy time.  Then….. he started eating again last night and even crapped and now he’s back to what he was last week. I was ready for him to die, that sucked, and then he didn’t. Fucking Dickhead, he even fucks with me about death. I still think he’s close, he won’t even eat cheeseburgers or chicken nuggets until evening and he won’t finish what I give him, but for now he’s acting okay.

 

I still tubed but I didn’t feel like posting.

The other day I wrote that I was leaning toward 2+2=5, now I see that 5+5+5 does not equal 15.

I’ve seen people blaming that on Common Core but I disagree.

Don’t get me wrong, both the ways they show to teach math are idiotic and don’t work (trust me on that, I’ve tried to teach algebra to kids who do multiplication that way).

The whole point of multiplication is to not need to fucking add after all, why the hell would you want them to count lines when they’re supposed to be multiplying? Why would you spend so much time teaching them to add when you’re trying to teach them multiplication? Getting them to memorize the multiplication table is how you teach that shit, that idiocy is going backward.

But the point is that I figure it’s an unqualified bureaucrat who only has the answer key and it said “3+3+3+3+3” so that’s the only answer.

I bet a dollar I could get this teacher to agree with Abbot and Costello if I could edit “Common Core Multiplication” into the beginning of this vid.
