Fuck you, Will Wright

If I’d realized the popularity of The Sims was going to result in the death of the Sim City franchise, I would never have played the game. It makes me want to fence Will Wright in with four blank walls, no plumbing, no bed, and no food source, and watch him starve to death over a period of three days while he’s talking gibberish and groaning.

That’s only tangentially related to what this post is actually about, though.

China’s got a stick up its governmental ass regarding mapping the country, largely because it’s got its own mapping service that it would prefer to be the primary information source so the Chinese government can retain control over what “facts” are distributed.

To provide additional competition to Google Maps, China has authorized its primary search engine to create a 3-D, Sim City-like rendering of China.   The good news is, people are oohing and aahing because they can find their childhood neighborhoods and the graphics are so pretty.

That interface is totally new and innovative.

The bad news is, CHINA IS STILL ALL CENSOR-EY!  Which seems to be overlooked at the many places I’ve seen this news story posted.
