Again.

I did something I was loathe loath to do, I figured out what it was going to cost me to get a new body for that engine.

I was going to have to spend probably $8-10k more to own two cars, a running El Camino and an albatross around my neck in the guise of a Caballero with an engine in the bed. Or… I could spend yet another couple grand, I’d hope but probably more knowing that fucking thing, and have a running Caballero worth maybe 3 or 4 grand. So for the low cost of $10-$12k on top of the nearly $10k I’ve already spent I’d have a car and an albatross and a lot less money to buy a house next year. I also have to spend another $1,500 to get the seats reupholstered in my Mustang and fix the BBK throttle body that’s 8 or 9 years old and acting up, I was going to have to put off the seats on the Mustang.

So I decided to keep the albatro….Caballero and, try (wish me luck on this shit) to go the classic car plates route so I don’t have to get emissions. I start school next month and it’ll take a year so next year I’ll move somewhere with no emissions.

I went to the DMV, they said I need Collector Car insurance. My insurance company needs pictures so tomorrow my plan is to register the thing and start driving it. Caballero plans tend to not work, so we’ll see.

The guy who was trying to get it emissioned did a bunch of work on it and it’s finally right. He adjusted the carb and timing, which none of the other people seemed to know how to do correctly, which the first asshole made sure was necessary by taking them off a tuned engine for some inexplicable reason and the 4th or 5th guys screwed up the timing trying to make a top-end car (power band at 5,000+ rpm) into an off-the-line car.

They’re the ones who wanted me to change the carb, I have a brand new Holley 750 4bbl that Blueprint said was right, and distributor, I have new HEI distributor again that Blueprint said was right, to make it faster off the line, which every other mechanic said was not going to work. A bigger, differently geared, rear-end and a manual transmission would be the way to do that according to my buddy in VA.

I might still do that, but if I do then I’d have to relive my teen years and take up power-sliding again… I mean, take up drifting.

I will say that in 1982-84 I did far more exciting ‘drifting’ in my 72 Cutlass Supreme with an Olds 350 4bbl. It was my specialty. I used to give rides. Hell, when I was  16-18 and learning that shit in my 72 Dart with the 196 straight six I did 360s far better than that, on snow and ice cuz a 196 can’t make the tires spin on pavement, but still. I used an egg-timer to track my 0-60 on that Dart.

So my plan is to put the Mustang under a cover and drive the Caballero for the summer and then contrariwise when I can put the top down. I am not looking forward to dealing with the Caballero again, but I hope I found a mechanic HeyZeus has not gotten to. The bastid.

Primary season is going to be even more interesting than when Tea Partiers were trying to get rid of them. Tea Partiers were still polite and respectful. Remember when they primaried Murkowski and the GOP closed ranks to get her elected anyway? I do not see that shit working next year. Bloomberg released a poll Monday in which they gauged Americans’ mood six months into the new presidency. While Trump didn’t fare too well, Americans are quite optimistic about the economy in general and their personal financial health. Not surprisingly, health care tops the list of concerns, followed by jobs and security issues. These findings are pretty typical, though the collapse of Obamacare and the GOP bills to fix it have caused health care to surge higher than usual. But look toward the center of the list. Russia, the issue that has dominated press coverage since the November election, scores a paltry 6 percent on Americans’ top concerns.

Notice where “taxes” is on that graph. They keep pushing that as if it was a big deal in the election but it was the lawlessness of the former admin, Obamacare and illegal immigration that Trump rode to victory. That stuff is not important to our fine media betters though so they ram their priorities down our throats.

Yet, things are so bad, it wasn’t the worst story. This was also the same week where CNN’s Poppy Harlow couldn’t even tell the Star Spangled Banner from the French national anthem. She wasn’t the worst, but I’m a native of the city that brought us that song and think she deserves a dishonorable mention.

It’s a race to the most obvious, despicable lie told with a straight face.

Each week there’s a more despicably dishonest lie from the NYTimesWashPostCNN which lie is then disseminated by the NYPostABCCBSNBCnon-HannityFoxNewsetc., they ignore the corrections or memory-holing that inevitably come soon thereafter.

Pakistan and Iran get frisky!

Two Iranian civilians were killed in an alleged cross-border attack by suspected militants on Saturday, according to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.

A statement on the Guards’ Sepah News website said, “On Saturday evening, a terrorist team… fired (ammunition) from within Pakistani territory towards the Iranian border region of Saravan. Two local workers in the region were martyred in this terrorist attack,” read the statement.

The suspense on whether Pakistan will get involved in the Middle East nukular war is one of the uncertainties out there. Along with where we’ll get into a war with Russia, the middle east or eastern Europe. And there’s China, will we get into a war with them over Taiwan or the South China Sea? I’d bet China was rooting for both when Obama made it so we had no nukular carriers at sea.

We have a serious problem in our criminal justice system.

Plea bargains are by far the most common way cases are settled in courts across the country. Most research claims anywhere between 95 percent to 97 percent of criminal cases in America never go to trial. Instead, they are hashed out between prosecutors, defense attorneys and defendants.

More than 90% are plea bargains because the system is overwhelmed. With repeat offenders.

There’s no ‘rehabilitation’ in the system for criminals, jail is where they get three hots and a cot and talk to other criminals. Jail is notably lawless what with the various gangs, not to mention if jailhouse rape is as prevalent as supposed. How can someone be rehabilitated if they live in a lawless state where Might Makes Right?

The problem is that the system is so huge and has so many people going through it that a change would be nearly impossible. Especially since lawyers like the current system and they’re the ones who make the laws and decide what the laws mean.

Rahm sent out a letter explaining how public pensions in Chicago are totally going to be Solvent For Centuries!

But there’s a bit of reality that’s being ignored.

llinois’s biggest financial challenge, the $130 billion debt to its workers’ pension funds, may only get bigger thanks to the budget that pulled the government back from the brink.That spending plan, pushed through by lawmakers eager to keep Illinois’s bond rating from being cut to junk, allows the state to sink deeper into the hole by giving it five years to phase in hundreds of millions of dollars in increased contributions to four of its five retirement plans.

Those extra payments stem from the funds’ decisions to roll back forecasts for what they expect to make on their investments, which means Illinois will need to set aside more money to ensure it can cover pension checks due in the decades ahead.

At the end, Divine eats some dogshit off the ground and smiles with shit flecking ‘her’ teeth and that’s not even close to the most disturbing part of the movie.

John Waters stumbled around bars in the Dundalk section of Baltimore looking for the most bizarre people to put in movies, he found some beauts.

Engine update!

I’m looking at 4 bodies in particular. There are three 66 El Caminos and a 65 Impala SS convertible. There are some 62 and 66 Rivieras I’d love to get, but they have 7.0 liter big-blocks that need work. I don’t want to be the guy who took out a big block and put in a small block. I’m pretty sure there’s a place in Hell for that and I’d like to avoid it.

The Impala is my choice, but the El Caminos could be ready with around $5k while it would take at least $10k for the Impala but…. 1965 Impala SS convertible!!!!!! If I paint it it would probably be worth more than double the El Caminos. I’ve seen them in the high-$30K region if they’re even decent while it takes a really nice El Camino to get up there.

Also, all the El Caminos have engines, the Impala doesn’t. I would put them in the Caballero, not running just put in, possibly in the bed, and sell it with an engine, which would make it worth more and save me more money in this deal.

I have some money I’m saving to buy a house and if I use it for the Impala I’d probably have to sell it when I’m ready to buy the house. With the El Caminos I’d be able to keep them. But 1965 Impala SS convertible!

And yeah, I wanted the car to drive in the summer to save the top on my Mustang, but 1965 Impala SS convertible!!!!!! It’s just awesome. There is nothing like two tons of convertible Detroit steel barreling down the road.

Mike Flynn, Trump’s former national security adviser, also attended the meeting (more innuendo, Flynn the Arch-Traitor was there!!!!!!! V). The December meeting was previously known about because Flynn was forced out of his job as a result of meeting with Kislyak. However, until Friday, it was not known that Kushner had also attended the meeting and made this offer. (that’s the “changing history to lie part V)

The Post’s headline doesn’t even say, “Allegedly”, they report it definitely but throughout their article says, “according to US officials who had been briefed on intelligence reports” and “according to intercepts of Russian communications that were reviewed by US officials“. They also quote people “familiar with the matter” who are sure they’re going to investigate this!

The whole Post article is full of innuendo and assertions by unnamed officials and that Examiner article doesn’t even make that clear. Isn’t that libel? Don’t they have to write, “allegedly” or something? If we were in the universe where important lefties were treated like the hoi polloi I mean. Obviously not in this one.

The incident involving Kushner sends the administration further into controversy as it attempts to explain why Trump would have needed a secret channel to Russia.

It should send the Wash Post further into controversy as it attempts to explain why it keeps using anonymous officials as the sole sources in supposed hard news articles.

News We All Knew! Obama is the one who actually tried to Hack The Election!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The FISA court called it a “very serious Fourth Amendment issue” that NSA analysts — in violation of a 2011 rule change prohibiting officials from searching Americans’ information without a warrant — “had been conducting such queries in violation of that prohibition, with much greater frequency than had been previously disclosed to the Court.”

A number of those searches were made from the White House, and included private citizens working for the Trump campaign, some of whose identities were leaked to the media. The revelations earned a stern rebuke from the ACLU and from civil-liberties champion Sen. Rand Paul.

We also learned this week that Obama intelligence officials really had no good reason attaching a summary of a dossier on Trump to a highly classified Russia briefing they gave to Obama just weeks before Trump took office.

Under congressional questioning Tuesday, Obama’s CIA chief John Brennan said the dossier did not “in any way” factor into the agency’s assessment that Russia interfered in the election. Why not? Because as Obama intel czar James Clapper earlier testified, “We could not corroborate the sourcing.”…

In so doing, Brennan virtually guaranteed that it would be leaked, which it promptly was.

In short, Brennan politicized raw intelligence. In fact, he politicized the entire CIA.

We didn’t really learn the bolded part this week, it just became impossible to ignore.

Little has been made public by Capitol Police on what exactly is being investigated; news reports in recent months have linked Awan, several of his relatives, and his wife to some type of Capitol Hill investigation that could involve stolen property and more.

I’ve seen some people talking and writing about this Wash Post story but I haven’t seen the most important take-aways.

The document, obtained by the FBI, described how the Attorney General at the time, Loretta Lynch, had privately assured a Clinton campaign member that the email investigation would not go too far, the Post reported.

Receipt of the document then allegedly helped influence the July decision by then-FBI Director James Comey to announce on his own, without the Justice Department’s involvement, that the investigation into Clinton was finished and that no charges against Clinton would be forthcoming.

So… in other words, the director of the FBI dropped an investigation because he thought the head of the Dept. of “Justice” thought he should.

Let’s see, that means that the director of the FBI thought it likely, not just plausible, that the top law enforcement person in the US would try to influence an investigation. In other words, he thought the rule of law in America was over and done where important Democrats are concerned. Just like anybody paying attention for 8 years!

Said director of the FBI then gave the result he thought his masters wanted. Just like we all thought!

It appears that the director of the FBI therefore thinks there was a reason for investigation. Just like much of the country! Hence, President Trump.

And let’s touch on the Most Surprising Thing Of The Day! Now that there’s non-anonymously-sourced Comey news what’s CNN interested in? Not Comey!

The work requirement in the president’s 2018 budget will save a whopping $190 billion over the next ten years… part of a larger plan to reform welfare in America.

As our fine social, moral, political and intellectual betters are telling us terrorism is just something we’ll have to deal with. Why should two sets of people who look at the same thing and say the same thing be treated so differently?

A sheriff noticing that the reaction is always the same, worrying about moderate Muslims, the True Victims of the attack, lighting up the Eiffel Tower and Big Ben and apologizing for how our western values radicalized this misbegotten soul and he’s “controversial”. That’s bass ackwards.

Former banker Guillermo Lasso is set to face narrow defeat but has already announced he disputes the result, calling for a recount.

Supporters of Lasso clashed with police as they took to the streets to protest.

Forty-two percent of respondents think the internet will stay about the same over the next 10 years, while 39 percent said they expect discourse to get even more hostile. Only 19 percent predicted any sort of decline in abuse and harassment.

 

Stupid question, stupid study, stupid newspaper article, stupid 19%, unless someone develops a dueling app that actually works abuse and harassment are not going to decline. Ever.
